When Nicholas Baillie (aka Lemonick) creates new material and sends it to friends and DJs, there is a veritable land grab for the young producer’s tracks. Space is the Place is proud to kick off 2018 with Lemonick’s Monza, including two irresistible original pot boilers, along with a very special remix by Dance System (aka Night Slugs bossman L-Vis 1990.)

These tracks represent Baillie’s unique ability to innovate, while still developing strong yet digestible club music. Each track feels as natural on the dancefloor of one of Lemonick’s numerous international club gigs, as it does in headphone from one of his numerous sets on Rinse FM and Couleur3. Informed by his experience as a DJ, as well as his age and Swiss work ethic, his productions have been loved by DJs the world over, including Teki Latex and Boys Noize. Lemonick was a participant at RBMA 2015 in Paris, and played Sonar Barcelona the following year.

Monza, the opening track, is a flowing, straightforward dancefloor tinderbox that feels simultaneously cleansing and rebellious. The heavy drums and sparse synths manage to build a catchy groove while still bringing enough motivational grit to please any operator. And Wheelspin picks up where Monza leaves off - building on the groove and grit that has become the signature Lemonick sound. Using a sparse set of sounds, Wheelspin has a set of twists and turns that keeps feet tapping while never disrupting its own groove.
Dance System’s Wheelspin remix is a precisely fitting response to the original mixes, and delivers a well-tempered and driving acid take to the original groove.

New York’s Space is the Place records is run by Astrolith and .rar Kelly and is a boutique electronic music label with a hip hop backbone.
